Very quiet on the website front at the moment. The cold weather has arrived and there is not much going on in Ohio boat wise! I have been super busy on other projects for the last two months and have not had the time to publish new stuff on SailAroundTheWorld.co. With that being said, I have ONE expense to report for the month of October.
Winter Storage/Hull Out/Bottom Cleaning – $210.00
Not much going on this month, I have been working out of town since mid August, hence virtually nothing is happening with the sailboat right now!
Signaling Whistle – $7.95
Also called the Caribbees, the Lesser Antilles can be divided into three groups of islands. The Leeward Islands in the north, the Windward Islands in the south and the Leeward Antilles in the southwest. The Lesser Antilles is one of the largest island groups in the Caribbean. Combine the Lesser Antilles with the Greater Antilles and you have simply the “Antilles”.

At the South East end of the Caribbean you’ll find the group of Islands referred to as the Windward Islands. The Windward Islands are the Southern half of the Lesser Antilles starting at Dominica and extending down to Grenada. Depending on who you ask, Dominica is either part of the Windward Islands or the Leeward Islands. I refer to Dominica as if it were a part of both island groups. Trinidad, Tobago and Barbados are Islands that fall into the “who knows” category as well. Some maps/people/resources show them as part of the Windward Islands and some don’t. The map below includes both.

Located in the “middle” of the Caribbean, the Leeward Islands are simply the Northern half of the Lesser Antilles. Starting at Vieques and Culebra (also known as the Puerto Rican Virgin Islands) located just East of Puerto Rico, the Leeward Islands extend down to Dominica. There is an ongoing disagreement among some about whether or not to include the Puerto Rican Virgin Islands and/or Dominica as part of the Leeward Islands.

The Leeward Antilles are the often forgotten about third group of islands that make up the Lesser Antilles. Located off the North coast of Venezuela, the Leeward Antilles are themselves made up of two small island groups. The two groups of islands making up the Leeward Antilles are the ABC Islands and the Venezuelan Archipelago.
Let me take a second to clarify this! The “ABC Islands” as well as the “Venezuelan Archipelago” are two groups of islands that together make the island group called the “Leeward Antilles”. The “Leeward Antilles” island group is one of three island groups that make up the “Lesser Antilles”. The “Lesser Antilles”, combined with the “Greater Antilles” make up the “Antilles”, an island group that is itself a group of islands in the Caribbean. CONFUSED YET???
The Leeward Antilles
• ABC Islands
• Venezuelan Archipelago
Also known as the “Federal Dependences of Venezuela”, the Venezuelan Archipelago are the Venezuelan controlled islands of the Leeward Antilles. Other than the ABC Islands, the Venezuelan Archipelago Islands are the Leeward Antilles. The Venezuelan Archipelago consists of hundreds of islands just north of Venezuela. Most of the islands are uninhabited rocks sticking out of the Caribbean Sea, but some have a population.
Within the Venezuelan Archipelago there are several smaller archipelagos. I could go into greater detail about all of the different groups and islands that make up the Venezuelan Archipelago, but in all honesty, it’s a bunch of rocks! Most of the islands are rocks with cliffs for shorelines. The exception to this is the Los Roques Archipelago.
The Los Roques Archipelago has hundreds of islands that resemble a picturesque tropical paradise. Making the Los Roques Archipelago the main destination of the Venezuelan Archipelago.
The Venezuelan Archipelago Islands are within the highlighted box below.
An Archipelago is a fancy way of describing a group or chain of islands.

The “ABC” in ABC Islands stands for Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao. The three islands are an “extension” of the Netherlands located just north of Venezuela. The ABC Island group is the west end of the Leeward Antilles. As part of the Leeward Antilles, the ABC Islands are within the “Lesser Antilles” which are within the “Antilles” that makes up most of the Caribbean.
Below I have highlighted the ABC Islands on the left side of the image.
Most of the months funds went to website related expenses. New server, programing ect… Since this is not a tech blog, I don’t think it’s relevant to list such things.
